Florence Gowin, 88, of Spotswood, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019 at her home.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Florence lived in Virginia and California before moving to Parlin for 10 years, then settling in Spotswood in 1965. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, dining out and her trips to Las Vegas. Florence cherished the time spent with her family, her Church and keeping up with her grandchildren and their activities. She was a long time Communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Spotswood, where she was also an Administrative Assistant for the Rectory, retiring in 2009 after nearly 25 years of service.
Predeceased by her children, Leo, Lorraine and Philip Gowin, her sister, Rita Vela, her granddaughter, Aimee Rae Giaquinto and, her great-grandson, Pierce Smith, she is survived by her children, Dorothy Kerr and her husband Mark, of Edison, Michael Saint Joseph and his husband P. Arthur Leary, of Atlantic City, Glen Gowin of Paterson and, her grandson, whom she raised from infancy as her own child, Reginald Gowin of Spotswood; her sister, Josephine Franco; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandsons, and; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday from Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, followed by an 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial from Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment will be in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
