Juan Garrido Obituary

Juan Garrido, 84, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away on July 5, 2019.

He was born to parents, Juan Garrido and Pilar Diaz on October 4, 1934 in Marianao, Havana, Cuba. Juan was a big Cuban revolutionary anticommunist, and a member of the Frente Revolucionario Anticomunista Cubano (FRAC). Juan exiled to Miami, Florida from Cuba on or about 1963, where he lived with his sister Rosalia, her family and his mother. After being apart for years and awaiting the arrival of his beloved wife Edelmira R. Rondon, they tied knot on January 13, 1966 in Miami, Florida. He joined the anticommunist revolutionary group M.I.M. in Miami, Florida.

Juan returns back with his family to New Jersey in the early part of the 1980s and settles there with his family. He continued to be highly active as a delegate in the anticommunist revolutionary group, M.I.M. He worked very hard for the former Webcraft Printing Company of North Brunswick, New Jersey for many years when he retired in 2002.

He loved his Cuban espresso, playing dominos with family and friends, along with playing Spanish cards (las Barajas). He was known for his great jokes. He was an avid Yankees fan and loved watching boxing. He enjoyed gardening, especially attending to his rose garden. He had several nick names, Chan, “El Gallego," Juanito, Meng and Weo.

Predeceased by his father, Juan, mother Pilar, his loving wife Edelmira, and his brother Rodolfo Diaz, he is survived by his daughters, Elise Garrido-Lugones, husband Santiago, and Marisol Diaz, husband Ramiro, grandchildren, John, Amanda and Cristina, and great granddaughter, Mia. Sisters, Rosalia Gonzalez, and Esther Rodriguez, goddaughter, Madeline Squillante, and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters and brothers in law.

Visitation is on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. The funeral services will begin at 9:15 AM Wednesday from the Funeral Home, followed by a 10:15 AM Mass of Christian Burial from Immaculate Conception Church Spotswood. Entombment will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Linden.
