Maureen Cora Verchick, 86, of South Amboy passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at home.
Born in Richmond Boro, New York City, Maureen was raised in Winfield Park and Perth Amboy, settling in South Amboy in 1967.
Maureen was employed for many years in the laundry/housekeeping departments at South Amboy Memorial Hospital and later retiring from the former Carriage House Manor Nursing Home which was in Parlin.
Maureen enjoyed watching classic old time movies as well as having a particular fondness for western classics. She enjoyed long walks on the boardwalks at the jersey shore and playing the slots in Atlantic City.
She was a compassionate, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Maureen adored every minute of her role as the family matriarch.
Predeceased by her husband, John Verchick, son, John George Verchick, daughter, Belinda Gallucci, and grandchildren, Joseph Flagg and James Dougherty, she is survived by her daughters, Mary Flagg and Jennifer Baker, her sister, Joan DeMarco, her grandchildren, Matthew, Sean and Daniel Verchick, Russell, Jessica, Rebecca, Danielle and Ryan Flagg, Scott Dougherty, Tara Gallucci, and Damian and Jonathan Baker, and many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, N.J. Funeral services will begin Friday, March 29, 2019 at 10:45 AM at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to begin gathering at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy.
