Alvaro Robayo, 80, of East Elmhurst (Queens), New York, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Born and raised in Ubate, Colombia, Alvaro came to the United States in the early part of the 2000s, settling in Queens, New York and, he enjoyed spending time at his daughter’s home in Monroe Township, New Jersey. He taught Biochemistry for more than 40 years at the Colegio Santa Maria de Ubate in his native Colombia before retiring. He was an avid bicyclist and never passed up an opportunity to go for a ride. Alvaro was kind and caring and always placed the needs of others before his own.
Predeceased by his parents, Ramon and Dioselina Robayo and, a brother, Lisandro Robayo, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Alarcon de Robayo; his children, Mauricio Robayo and Tatiana Robayo and her husband, John Simon; his brothers, Ramon, Guillermo, Silvio, Rafael and Orlando Robayo, and; his grandchildren, Camila, Sebastian and Alexia.
Family and friends may call on Friday, November 28th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 29th at 9:00 AM at Saint James the Less RC Church, Jamesburg, New Jersey. Committal prayers will follow in the Crematory Chapel at Holy Cross Burial Park, Jamesburg, New Jersey.
