Anibal Luna, Sr., 99, of Old Bridge Township, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at his home.
Born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Anibal lived in Brooklyn, New York from 1943 until coming to Spotswood in 2001. He settled in Old Bridge Township in 2020. He retired in 2003 from the Archdiocese of New York after 20 years of service. Before that, he owned Anibal’s Restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn for 20 years. An avid New York Mets fan, he enjoyed listening to old Spanish music, playing bingo and dominos, gardening and, his many family trips to Harriman State Park in New York’s Hudson Valley. But above all else, he cherished spending time with his family.
Predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Maria Isabel in January 2025, a brother and sister, Ismael and Rose Luna, he is survived by his children, Anibal Luna, Jr. and his wife Ann Bon-Luna and Hector Luna; his siblings, Reyno, Francisco and Minerva; grandchildren, Robert, Justin, Christian and Jason, and; great-grandchild, Rey.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 3rd at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. Committal will follow at 11:15 AM at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 2nd, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Anibal’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
