Arnold Goldfarb Obituary

Arnold Goldfarb, born May 17, 1931 passed away on September 19, 2022 in his home. He was a nationally renowned pioneer in the American Pharmaceutical Manufacturing industry. Arnold’s career was highlighted by numerous accomplishments. He was born in the Bronx New York and moved to New Jersey at age 2. He graduated from Hillside High School and then graduated from Rutgers Pharmacy College. He specialized in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing after post graduate studies taken at Columbia University. Arnie invented and co-developed many medications . He was an expert in pharmaceutical packaging having authored a chapter on this subject in the United States Pharmacopeia (US pharmacopeia). He served on five different panels for the US pharmacopeia. Arnold was the innovator of the sterile unit (single) dose packaging which was groundbreaking at the time. This technology that he developed is being used in every hospital in the country today. He was the President of the National Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing for 2 terms. He then served on the board of directors for many years. Arnold was well respected by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). After graduating from Rutgers Pharmacy school he was asked to start a laboratory at a generic Pharmaceutical Company. This company was co-founded by his father Louis Goldfarb, also a pharmacist. Later his company called Day-Baldwin became part of Chesebrough Ponds in 1969 . Arnold Goldfarb served on the Board of Directors at Chesebrough Ponds In the late 1970’s he became the scientific director at Fougera Pharmaceuticals which is a Sandoz company now and part of Novartis global. He continued as a special consultant for Fougera for many years after he retired.

Since childhood Arnold has been interested in music having played trombone in the marching band in high school and was a accomplished pianist. He was an avid reader, he like to play golf (having hit a hole in 1). He enjoyed life spending time with his family and friends .

Arnold Goldfarb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was married for 68 years to Sondra Goldfarb (having been together 70 years). He is survived by three children: Mark (Laurie), David (Lisa) and Barbara (Robert), 6 grandchildren: Lindsey Schreck (AJ), Jaime Taylor (Zach Taylor), Jared Goldfarb (Christie), Brian Goldfarb, Rebecca Portnoff Becca Claire and Julia Portoff. He also has 4 great grand children: Zoey, Olivia, Austin and Lucas.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12:30 PM, Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, under the direction of Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Spotswood.
