Joao Carlos Margarido, 52, of Spotswood passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 after an extended illness.
Carlos was born and raised in Ponte De Vagos, Portugal, he came to the United States in his mid-20s and lived in South River and Sayreville before settling in Spotswood in 2007. For 26 years he worked as a road construction laborer with Heavy and General Construction Laborers Local 472 of Newark, retiring earlier this year. He was a gentle and kind man who always cared for others. He enjoyed watching soccer, which he played growing up, day trips and fishing. Most of all, he looked forward to spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Brenda Margarido; his son, Victor Margarido and his wife, Tiffany; his parents, Flavio and Julia Margarido; his siblings, Rui Margarido and Christine Muller, and; his grandsons, Leonardo and Dominic Margarido.
Funeral services will begin with a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial from Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood, on Wednesday, August 28th, followed by committal in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 27th, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Carlos’ memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
