Clyde C. Espenschied, Jr., 97, of Spotswood, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Robert Wood Juhnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Clyde lived in Quens, New York for many years before settling in Spotswood in the mid-1960s. He honorably served his country as a second lieutenant in the United States Airforce during the Korean Conflict, piloting bomber flights. After his military service ended, Clyde began working as a freelance designer and artist for a number of New York City advertising agencies. He was an accomplished painter, using water color, acrylics and oils, until shortly before his death. In college, he played semi-professional tennis. He was an avid chess player, enjoyed running and practiced Taekwondo and Tai Chi.
Predeceased by his brother, Robert and his sister, Aube Kriz, Clyde is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; his children, Mark and his wife, Sandra, Julie Pozzo and her husband, James, John and Robert and his wife, Ann, and; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private cremation was entrusted to Spotswood Funeral Home.
