David Piltzer, 97, of Fanwood, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Born and raised in Newark, David lived in Scotch Plains and Plainfield for many years, settling in Fanwood in late 2022. He attended Rutgers University and Rutgers Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree. After graduation, he served in the United States Army as an attorney during the Korean conflict. David worked for the State of New Jersey in the Alcohol Beverage Control Division, and retired as a Deputy Attorney General after 25 years of service. He then went on to practice law privately until 2015. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and boating. After buying a cottage on Greenwood Lake, he bought a 17 foot sailboat, taught himself how to sail and became an avid boatsman. Above all else, he looked forward to spending time with his family. Additionally, David was committed to giving back to the community, and served as President of the Board of Temple Israel in Scotch Plains in the mid-70’s.
Predeceased by his wife, Anne, in 1991, and his brothers, Irving and Meyer Piltzer, he is survived by his sons, Gerald Piltzer and his wife Julie and Jason Piltzer; his grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel and Jenna; his great-grandson, Graham, and; his companion of over 30 years, Judith Peck.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30AM on Tuesday, February 25th at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, under the direction of Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Spotswood.
