Gerard Hastaba Obituary

Gerard Hastaba of Monroe Township, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Monday, January, 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was 67 years old.

Jerry was born in Brooklyn, New York and later moved to Staten Island. He has resided in Monroe Township since 2004. After high school, Jerry started working in a hardware store and took interest in locksmithing. He completed his apprenticeship and began his career as a certified master locksmith in New York City. He said that there wasn’t a single building in lower Manhattan that he didn’t work on. When the “nightclub on wheels” trend rose to popularity, he decided to enter into car stereo. Jerry built and ran a successful business widely recognized in the industry for the past 30 years. He was an avid Yankees fan, enjoyed working on his house, and tuning into his favorite Western cowboy movies. His larger-than-life presence, his unforgettable singing voice, and his sharp wit, has touched every single person. He was truly a one-of-a-kind family man; the most humble and loving father and brother.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Viola Hastaba, and his two brothers Michael and Tommy. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Annie Yang of Monroe Township; his sons Jerry and Anthony; his daughters Lisa and Brittany; his stepson Michael; his stepdaughter Mary Ellen; his brother Edward; his brother David and sister-in-law Dawn. He will also be sadly missed by his Aunt Ann, his cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, January 8, 2020, at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main St, Spotswood, NJ 08884. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions placed on gatherings and activities, all current guidelines are to be observed during visitations, including the use of face coverings and social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, a Go Fund Me account has been established to assist Jerry's youngest son, Anthony, with a college fund. You may donate by clicking here.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
