Hugo Herrera

Hugo F. Herrera, 90, of East Brunswick, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020 in East Brunswick.

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Hugo came to the United States in 1961 to pursue the American dream. Alone in the United States for the first year, Hugo worked hard and saved every penny to bring his wife and son to New York in 1962. Hugo was a visionary and nothing would deter him from making his dream a reality. In 1974, Hugo purchased a 4-family home in Yonkers, New York where he would spend the next 30 years proudly maintaining and improving the property. Hugo was well respected in the community that he loved and nurtured. Hugo settled in East Brunswick in 1998 with his family. He retired in 1991 from the New York Stock Exchange where he worked for more than 20 years just in time to take care of his newly born granddaughter. Hugo enjoyed watching soccer and tinkering in the garage. He was passionate about his native country and family he left behind and would take hundreds of trips back to Ecuador over the next 60 years. Hugo’s greatest joy came from his granddaughter, Gabby. He loved animals as well and took great pride in caring for Roxy and Zena.

Hugo is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosario; his son Gerry and his wife Lisa, and; his granddaughter Gabrielle.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service for Hugo has been postponed to a future date.
