John Kasternakis, Sr.

John Kasternakis, Sr, 55, of Helmetta, died Monday, April 15, 2013 after a long fought illness, surrounded by all of his loving family, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, John was raised in Highland Park and settled in Helmetta 26 years ago. He retired from DuPont in Parlin in the mid-90's after 20 years as a chemical technician in the photo imaging division. John was well known for his sharp sense of humor and you could always expect that you would be laughing when you were anywhere around him. He enjoyed cooking, baking, camping and tinkering with his vintage 1980 Corvette. He is survived by his children, John Kasternakis, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, of South Amboy, Kristina Carrion and her husband Anthony, of St. Augustine, FL and Joseph Kasternakis of Helmetta; his parents, Michael and Priscilla Kasternakis of Highland Park; his siblings, Ted Kasternakis of Monroe Twp., James Kasternakis of Millstone Twp., George Kasternakis and his wife Lucy, of Freehold and Elaine Hill and her husband, Lew, of Monroe Twp.; four grandchildren, Alexander and Matthew Kasternakis and Kaylin and Anthony Carrion, Jr.; many nieces and nephews, and; his long-time companion, Betty Agiovlasitis of Helmetta. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday from Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, with a private cremation to follow. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring John's memory may be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 or the Sayreville B.I.C.
