John F. Melillo, Sr.

John F. Melillo, Sr., 88, of Spotswood, passed away at Morris View Health Care Center, Morris Township, on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Born and raised in Newark, John lived there until 2004 when he settled in Spotswood. He retired from the City of Newark Road Department in 2000 after 20 years of service. Prior to his working for the City, John owned several businesses in both Newark and Bloomfield. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Rangers. From 2017 through 2020, John served as a Councilman for the Boro of Spotswood.

Predeceased by his wife Antoinette Melillo in 1981 and, his son Anthony Melillo in 2008, he is survived by his son, John Melillo, Jr.; his brother, Rocco Melillo, and; his grandchildren, Antoinette, Jonathan, Angelica and Anthony Melillo.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, February 1st, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM during the visitation. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations honoring John’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
