John Mendoza, Sr, 57, of Parlin passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026 at HMH Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, John also lived in Queens, New York for many years before settling in New Jersey in 2000. He retired in 2007 from Jamaica Hospital, Queens, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. Together with his wife, Wanda, he enjoyed cruising the Bahamas, Mexico, Bermuda and Canada, and spending time in Florida, vacationing with his granddaughters and just driving around with no particular place to go. He looked forward to spending time with his family and being “papa” for his grandchildren, hosting barbeques at home and going out to eat with family. Watching old TV westerns and wrestling events were his pastime and he was an avid fan of the New York Mets and Giants. John was very generous and his home was always open to all.
Predeceased by his father, Juan Mendoza, he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Wanda (Rodriguez) Mendoza; his children, John Mendoza, Jr and his longtime companion, Lissette Arocho, David Mendoza and his wife, Glenda, Justin Mendoza and his wife, Sarah and Matthew Mendoza and his fiancée, Janiel De Leon; his mother, Elizabeth Mendoza; his brother, David Mendoza; and, his grandchildren, Alia, Mariah, Alexandra, Mia, Israel, Xavier, Isabelle and, a future granddaughter coming in June 2026.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, April 15th, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring John’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
