Joseph Walter Wright, 86, of Georgetown, DE, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Delaware Hospice, Milford, DE. Born in Newark and raised in Hillside, Joe lived in Sayreville for many years before settling in Georgetown, DE in 2006. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve from 1943 until 1946 aboard the USS Cephaus (AKA-18), a US Navy attack cargo ship manned by the Coast Guard. During his time in the service, Joe sailed nearly around the world. He retired in 1988 after more than 30 years as a truck body builder from Summit Truck Body, Summit. He was an avid boater and he also had a keen sense of humor. Predeceased by his wife Gloria in 2002, and his siblings Caroline Brenner and James Wright, he is survived by his children, William Wright, Laura Jacobs and Sherri Wright, all of Georgetown, DE, Joy Wright of Mt. Pocono, PA and Brenda Kosza and her husband, Kenneth, of Spotswood; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday from the Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, followed by interment in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations honoring Joe's memory be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or online at www.delawarehospice.org.
