In Loving Memory of Maria Hollosi
Maria Hollosi, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in her home in Spotswood. Her journey began in the heart of Hungary, where she was born on February 16, 1933.
Maria’s determination and strength were evident from a young age. She exhibited unwavering courage as she ventured to the United States in 1956. She resided in New Brunswick then moved to Somerset to raise her kids. Later, moving to Milltown, before settling in Spotswood in 2018. She retired in 1995, after 33 years working for Ethicon in Bridgewater.
Maria traveled from Hungary with just a suitcase and a treasure trove of Hungarian recipes. She was known for her amazing cooking. Whether it was the comforting embrace of leves (“medicine soup” as her grandchildren called it), the delicate layers of her palacsinta (Hungarian pancakes), or the savory notes of chicken paprikash, Maria's kitchen was a sanctuary where love and tradition mingled in every dish she prepared.
However, Maria's greatest joy was her family. She was the nurturing matriarch whose love knew no bounds. Her home was a haven where laughter echoed, stories were shared, and meals became cherished moments of togetherness. Her kindness, resilience, and unconditional love were the threads that wove the fabric of her family's lives.
Maria is predeceased by her parents, Vendel and Gizella Fordos, her husband, Frank Hollosi of 41 years. She is survived by her cherished sons, Frank and Zoltan Hollosi; her sisters, Gizella Belady and Anna Romek; her loving grandchildren, Tiffany Pula and her husband Tim, Nicole Visokay and her husband Bobby, Courtney Valenti and her husband Mike and Ryan Hollosi and his partner Alec; and her great-grandchildren, Brayden, Corlin, McKenzie and Cole.
Maria’s legacy of resilience, love, and the joy of a shared meal will continue to inspire and resonate for generations to come.
A private cremation was entrusted to Spotswood Funeral Home. A Private Memorial Service with family will be announced at a later date.
Donations honoring Maria’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
