Maria Isabel Luna, 94, of Spotswood, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2024.
Born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, she moved to Brooklyn, New York during her teens where she lived until settling in Spotswood in 2002. She was a seamstress for Gates Manufacturing Company in New York City, NY for 20 years and, she also worked as a cook in her family’s restaurant in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, retiring over 30 years ago. She was an excellent cook and she enjoyed reading, dancing and playing bingo and dominos. She was also an avid fan of the New York Mets.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Anibal Luna; her sons, Anibal Luna and his wife, Ann Bon-Luna and Hector Luna; her grandsons, Robert, Justin, Christian and Jason, and; her great-grandson, Rey.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 18th, from Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, followed by an 11:15 AM committal service at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17th from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, and then again from 7:00 until 9:00 PM, at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Maria Isabel’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
