Mary Simon, 94, of Monroe Township, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Village Pointe.
Mary was born in Bánd Hungary in 1931. She was the daughter of Martin and Theresa Drexler and the eldest of three siblings, Anthony, Emma, and Leslie.
In 1951 at the age of 20, she and her family came to the United States where they lived in Union Township. Being the determined woman she was, she arrived in the US on a Friday and began working that following Monday as a seamstress with the former Brodsky Sewing Factory of South River where she worked for 35 years until retirement.
She married Joseph Simon in 1952 and they raised their daughter, Evelyn, in Old Bridge where they became parishioners of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church. In 1993, Mary and Joseph settled in Monroe Township becoming members of Nativity of our Lord.
To know Mary was to love her. She was always ready to have a good time and loved living life with a full social calendar. From helping the church host bingo, painting ceramics, playing cards, bus trips to Atlantic City or the theater, to vacations across the US or Europe with her husband, she was always on the go.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, baking, and listening to Elvis Preseley songs; but what really lit her up most was the people she loved.
Mary loved her family, especially “her three girls,” and friends dearly. Spending time with them for holidays, special occasions, or just because was what mattered most. Being in her company guaranteed laughter, a story, and knowing that you’re loved.
Over the last few years, her family grew to include those who took tireless care of her at Village Pointe.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Simon in 2005, and her three siblings. Mary is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Pearce and her husband, Ken, and; her grandchildren, Cynthia Pearce and Christine Galano and her husband, Cory.
Funeral services will begin with a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial from Saint Thomas the Apostle RC Church, Old Bridge, followed by a committal service at Holy Cross Burial Park, Jamesburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Mary’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
