Patricia Johnson, 53, of Spotswood passed away on April 19, 2020 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Tricia was born in Overland Park, Kansas, and grew up in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Stratford HS in 1984, earned an Associates of Arts Degree from Cottey College in Nevada, MO, then graduated with a teaching degree from Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State) in San Marcos, TX in 1989. She began her career teaching first grade at Peggy Wilson Elementary School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Houston, and as recently as March 2020 was teaching English online to young children in China.
Tricia had a wonderful sense of fun and a contagious sense of humor. She loved to travel, but her favorite place to spend time was at the family cottage in Eagle Harbor, MI. A passionate sports fan, her favorite teams were the Houston Astros and the Houston Texans. She was a proud member of the PEO Sisterhood for more than 30 years. Though she was confronted with many health challenges in the last years, she faced and surmounted them with steadfast determination.
Preceded in death by her father, Gerald Johnson, Tricia is survived by her longtime partner, Jody Jodon; mother, Ann Johnson, of Eagle Harbor, MI; sisters Carol Bogart (Barry), Arlington, TX; Gayle McKenney (Lawrence), Willis, TX; Elaine Finke (Rick), Eagle Harbor, MI; brother Richard Johnson (Laurie), Houston, TX; and numerous members of her extended family and friends.
Tricia's life will be celebrated this summer in Eagle Harbor, MI, where she will be laid to rest in Pine Grove Cemetery. For those wishing to honor Tricia’s memory, the family suggests donations to Cottey College in her name, or to one of the other PEO Sisterhood Educational Projects, or to a charity of choice.
