Philip Miller Obituary

Philip E. Miller, 79, of Manalapan Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Philip lived in Dexter and Farmington, Michigan, Flushing (Queens), New York, West Orange and Marlboro, settling in Manalapan in 2006. He attended Georgetown University, the University of Michigan and New York University, attaining his PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Literature. Afterwards, he became the Director of the New York Library of the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, retiring in 2011, after 40 years with the school. He was a member of the AJL, the Association of Jewish Libraries. He was responsible for arranging an exhibit of Jewish artifacts from the Vatican, that toured six cities in the United States. He was an avid reader and he spoke five languages fluently.

Predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Natalie Miller and his sister, Andrea White, he leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife 54 years, Zenia Miller; his son, Paul Miller and his wife, Amy; his grandsons, Andrew and Ben Miller, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

A cryptside service will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at 1:00 PM at the Mount Sinai Cemetery Chapel, Route 79, Morganville, under the direction of Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Spotswood.
