Walter Surowiec, Sr.
August 31, 1936 ~ May 16, 2023 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Walter Surowiec, Sr., 86, of East Brunswick passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Walter was born in New Brunswick, NJ and was raised in Spotswood. In 1957, Walter married Patricia White Surowiec and the couple settled in East Brunswick, where they raised 6 children together. As a young man he enjoyed body building and traveled cross-country. He enjoyed working on cars and explored the countryside on his Indian motorcycle. Walter was a self-taught musician playing and building accordions his entire life. Walter was a skilled survivalist, spending time in the mountains hunting, fishing, taking photos, and enjoying the quietude of nature. Walter was well known for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He was the most patient and loving father, sharing his passions of bicycling, nature, photography, and woodworking with his children. Walter remarried in 2008 and enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Caribbean with his wife Pauline.
Walter was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1998. Walter is also predeceased by his brother John Surowiec, and his parents Stanley Surowiec and Mary Suita Surowiec. Walter is survived by his 6 children Walter Surowiec, Jr. and his wife Mary, Patricia Surowiec, Michael Surowiec and his wife Sharon, Karen Surowiec, Daniel Surowiec, and Maryanne Surowiec; his sister Irene Janas; his grandchildren George, Brian, Steven, Asher, Meshelemiah, and Jesse, and; his great-granddaughter Kayla. Walter is survived by his wife of 15 years, Pauline Redmond Surowiec.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday evening, May 22nd, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 AM Tuesday, May 23rd, from Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM from Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Services will conclude at the Crematory Chapel at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick immediately following the Mass.
